Caring, Sharing, Listening

Last month in Shieldfield we had such a lovely time enjoying litter picking, caring for our wildflower meadow, eating delicious food, and listening to wonderful live music. The atmosphere was warm and full of joy.

The Neighbourhood Care Walkarounds are organised by the Shieling Group, Dwellbeing members who care for Shieldfield’s public spaces, grow food, and work together to make our neighbourhood an even better place for everyone. We were joined by Cain from Wild Intrigue who brought tools and shared advice to help us care for our wildflower meadow. Many people joined to lend a hand at the meadow while others enjoyed litter picking and tidying up our streets and green spaces.

After the physical work, we went back to Forum Cafe for some delicious food from Dwellbeing Community Chefs, members who love to cook and share their food in ways that build friendship and connection in Shieldfield. Tigist served up soya tibs with chilli and cardamom, Ethiopian style vegan scrambled egg (buticha), served with freshly baked bread. Maria shared her homestyle sauerkraut stew (kapustnicu) and coleslaw salad, followed by apple pancakes and apple crumble. Yum!

We were delighted to be joined by singer, songwriter and multi-instrumentalist from Kenya, Rapasa Nyatrapasa Otieno in collaboration with Cobalt Studios. Rapasa shared his music inspired from traditional storytelling, playing the Nyatiti, a traditional eight-string lyre from the shores of Kenya’s Nam Lolwe (Lake Victoria). Rapasa had us all join in the singing with call and response and we were so happy to wish him a happy birthday!

It was a joy to see so many people come together, sharing life and shaping Shielfield. We truly appreciate everyone who made this day so special!

Why not join us for the next Neighbourhood Care Walkaround?
