Welcome Kaltouma Hassaballah as Community Bee

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Kaltouma Hassaballah to the role of Community Bee. Kaltouma is a resident of Shieldfield and a founding member of Dwellbeing Shieldfield CBS. She has previously played a vital role in the organisation as both Steward and an active member of the Shieling Working Group.

Kaltouma is passionate about community organising and enjoys supporting community-led activities, especially when they involve growing, cooking and sharing food. She learned about growing vegetables and herbs and saving seeds from her parents in Sudan and she has learned how to adapt these skills to the North East climate as part of the Shieldfield growers group.

As a Community Bee, Kaltouma will spend time listening to and learning from our members and nurturing local relationships, especially related to growing. Taking over from Ken Mallon, the role will involve working closely with Lydia Hiorns (Shieldfield Grows lead and Director at SAW) to deliver a planned programme of growing activities and events. Kaltouma will also work with the Dwellbeing team to support the integration of Shieldfield Grows into the wider Dwellbeing programme and organisational development.

Kaltouma will step down from her role as Steward before commencing employment with Dwellbeing on 12 October 2022.

We need more Bees! We will be advertising for 1 or 2 more Community Bee roles early in the new year. The roles will focus on public space growing and supporting member-led activities in Shieldfield. Further details of the roles and how to apply will be announced in due course.
