Call for Stewards!
Share your thoughts and experiences! We warmly invite you to consider becoming one of our Dwellbeing Shieldfield Stewards.
No experience is needed. What matters most is that you want to help shape our community and support the wellbeing of people in Shieldfield. Dwellbeing Shieldfield is a Community Benefit Society — a cooperative run by its members.
Stewards are our Directors. They help guide the organisation by looking after our membership, policies, communications, finances and activities. You don’t need to know how to do any of this already; the Stewards are a friendly group who listen, share skills and support each other in making decisions.
We meet every three months to discuss Dwellbeing Shieldfield’s activities and make plans for the future. Between meetings, Stewards volunteer their time in ways that suit them. Some help with planning, some with fundraising, some with listening, organising or creative ideas, and some join Working Groups — all kinds of contributions are valued.
Almost anyone can be a Steward. The only requirements are that you’re over 18, you’ve been a Dwellbeing Shieldfield member for more than a year and that you’re happy to have a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check - a standard safeguarding step used to confirm that you’re is suitable to volunteer with the community.
It doesn’t matter if you’re confident or quiet, new to community work or very experienced, long‑settled in Shieldfield or a newer resident — your experience matters. Many people worry they’re not the “right sort of person” to be a Steward, but all you need is a willingness to share your perspective, care for your neighbours and be open to learning. We are especially keen to welcome Stewards who currently live in Shieldfield.
Why join?
It’s a great way to meet new people, learn new skills, contribute to decisions that affect Shieldfield and be part of a welcoming member‑led organisation. We are a small and friendly team.
