New practices of community learning

  • Shieldfield Art Works, 1 Clarence Street, Shieldfield, Newcastle upon Tyne, England, NE2 1YH United Kingdom (map)

Join us to celebrate and share the learning from a traineeship hosted by Dwellbeing Shieldfield which explored new practices of community learning. Hear from the trainee and mentors about the approach that we have taken to developing and embedding place-based knowledge and skills.

Between September 2024 and May 2025 the traineeship has focused on building skills and knowledge in urban planning, architecture and co-design to develop plans for public space improvements. The trainee was recruited from the local area and was jointly mentored by Dwellbeing Shieldfield and Harper Perry with input from council officers and researchers.

We’re inviting community members and practitioners (local authority, education, architecture, planning, community development) to openly share and evaluate the approach that we have taken to new practices of place-based community learning. The event will include presentations from the trainee, mentors and researchers followed by food and conversation.

We hope you can join us.
